Projects// Nava Rasa

Rasa is a Sanskrit word, which is used in poetic expression to describe emotion. The Nava Rasas, or the nine emotions, are the basis of all classical Indian dance, music and theatre.

Sandhya recorded a solo project based on this ancient Indian concept with a modern day interpretation. To perform the material she teamed up with Matthieu Safatly - cello, Heiko Dijker - tabla and Andjanie Bahorie - kathak dance. Sandhya later revived this project with Omri Hason (Switzerland) on percussion and Karim Hassan (Germany) on oud. In 2008, Scott Stroman directed the London Philharmonic Orchestra Renga Ensemble and Sandhya to perform her Nava Rasa suite in a unique collaboration.
